Structure of IELTS Exam

Approximately 30 minutes (plus 10 minutes' transfer time for the paper-based test)

4 sections:

  • Part 1: A conversation between two people in a social context (e.g., two friends chatting)
  • Part 2: A monologue on a topic from everyday life (e.g., a description of a place)
  • Part 3:  A conversation between up to four people on a workplace or educational topic (e.g., a discussion in a meeting)
  • Part 4: A monologue on an academic topic (e.g., a lecture)

 

Multiple-choice questions, sentence completion, short-answer questions, table completion, and flow chart completion.

Approximately 60 minutes

3 sections, approximately 2,150–2,750 words total

  • Section 1: A factual text on a general topic (e.g., a newspaper article) *
  • Section 2: A factual text on a work-related topic (e.g., a description of a process)
  • Section 3: A longer and more complex text on an academic topic (e.g., an excerpt from a research paper)

2 tasks:

  • Task 1 : (150-word summary of visual information): Write a summary of a graph, diagram, chart, table, or other visual information.

 

  • Task 2 : (250-word essay on a given topic): Write an essay in response to a prompt. The prompt will ask you to do one of the following:

 

  1. Write an argumentative essay.
  2. Write an opinion essay.
  3. Write a solution to a problem essay.
  4. Write a report essay.

3 parts:

  • Part 1 : (personal introduction and questions): The examiner will ask you questions about yourself, your work or studies, your interests, and your experiences.
  • Part 2 : (prepared monologue on a given topic): The examiner will give you a topic card with instructions and one minute to prepare. You will then have to speak for 1–2 minutes on the topic.
  • Part 3 : (discussion of a related topic): The examiner will ask you questions related to the topic of your monologue in Part 2.

How much time does it take?

The duration of our IELTS courses at Verbup.app is flexible and tailored to your individual needs. While it can range from a few weeks to several months, the exact timeframe depends on factors such as your current English level, desired band score, and the intensity of your study regimen.

For beginners, we recommend 3-6 months to build a strong foundation. Intermediate learners may achieve their goals within 1-3 months, while advanced learners can often see significant improvement in a few weeks to a month.

Do you give certificate?

Unfortunately, VerbUp Academy does not currently offer IELTS certificates. While we provide comprehensive training and support to help you achieve your desired IELTS score, the official IELTS certificate is issued directly by the British Council or IDP IELTS.

However, we can provide you with a certificate of completion for our IELTS courses. This certificate can serve as proof of your participation in our program and can be a valuable addition to your academic or professional portfolio.
